Dried pomegranates – The Marvel Fruit

Dried pomegranates are good for your health. While pomegranates are commonly red, when dried it can be in many colors, including pink and red, but most often white. The fruit is believed by many people as a very nutritious and useful fruit. Several facts about the fruit are:

  • The name derives from medieval Latin pōmum “apple” and grānātum “seeded”
  • It is native to the western Himalayan range and the region of Armenia in Persia, which is now known as Iran
  • Every fruit contains up to 840 arils, or seed casings. These arils are the edible part of the fruit
  • After cutting the fruit in half, it is easier to pick the arils in water, as the heavy seed casings sink while the inedible pulp floats.
  • The fruit has the ability to enhance red blood cells
  • Can help control blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  • When dried, it can be used to clear tooth cavities
  • It can aid in the prevention of cancer
  • Effective as ingredients for medicines that can be used to cure diarrhea, weak eyesight, dysentery, worms, hemorrhoids, and many other diseases
  • In many cultures around the world, pomegranate symbolizes longevity and prosperity
  • It contains the Vitamins B6, C, E, and K, as well as the minerals iron, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, and natural phenols, such as ellagitannins and flavonoids
  • It can help to improve your heart function
  • It reduces and alleviates some symptoms of menopause
  • Slows the development of arthritis by protecting the cartilage
  • It is widely believed to be the cure for many, if not all, diseases
  • In preliminary laboratory research and clinical trials, juice of the pomegranate may be effective in reducing heart disease risk factors, including LDL oxidation, macrophage oxidative status, and foam cell formation
  • In a limited study of hypertensive patients, consumption of pomegranate juice for two weeks was shown to reduce systolic blood pressure
  • Dried pomegranate has been approved by the US FDA for daily consumption
